Remote Learning – St. Mary’s P.S. Altinure

Arrangements for Year 1-3

Pupils from Yr 1-3 are expected to complete activities from the pack of work that was sent home. This pack is expected to last 4 weeks.

Mrs McKenna and Miss McKinney have also updated the school’s website with other useful resources and suggestions. These are available on the Home Learning tab.

Arrangements for Year 4-7

Year 4-7 pupils are expected to completed a Maths and English activity each day. In the week beginning 23rd March, pupils should continue to work from the pack of resources handed out last week which lasts for 10 days.

In the week beginning 30th March, Yr 4-7 pupils will be able to access Google Classroom which is an online classroom where teachers can upload work and pupils can communicate with teachers and also upload photos of their work/completed work if they wish. Hard copies of this work have been made available to most classes. All classes will have online worksheets and activities. Remember to take a break for your Easter holidays!

To access Google Classroom, you must get your child to log into their My School page. A video of instructions for Google Classroom is already on our school website. This week, teachers will be trialling Google Classroom with students. You will soon receive a text with your child’s Google Classroom password. There will be a different password for each class so please make sure you use the right one for your child. You can test out Google Classroom this week by posting a message to your class or teacher.

Accelerated Reading and Mathletics activities continue to be available at home and will be a vital resource in the coming weeks. Many other resources are available free online eg LibrariesNI, Topmarks, Nessy etc…. Teachers will suggest particular websites over the coming weeks. Keep an eye on our school website for more information and please sign up to our website (through Schools NI app) so you are up to date!

Pace your child with the activities for the next 4 weeks. It is most beneficial if you do the tasks the teacher has assigned at the time recommended by the teacher. That way, she can offer helpful suggestions or web links that may help your child to succeed.

Please do not expect your child to work for hours on end. The school day has breaks for play and lunch and children also engage in Music, PE, Art, Drama and topic work. Remember to allow your child opportunities for these as well.

All activities outlined above are optional for parents but very beneficial for pupils. We accept that not all pupils will have access to online learning opportunities and that devices may need to be shared among different family members.

The most important thing is that pupils, staff and their families remain safe and well. Hopefully, more time together as a family will enable you to make some special memories.

Missing you all and looking forward to the day when everyone is able to come back to school.

What a great day that will be!! God bless.            Mrs Redmond x
